Fordson Dexta King Pin Chisel mark
Posted by Peter Goodwin on 12th May 2015
Next time you walk past a Fordson Dexta, have a look at the top of the stub axle. You should see a chisel mark each side which is a very basic method of checking the tracking. With the Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors with similar front axle design, the radius rod pivot is on the outer axle pieces, directly underneath the front drag link ball joint. This means that whatever wheel widths are selected the front wheels remain in track. Presumably when the Fordson Dexta was produced this must have been a Ferguson patent so they had to do it differently. Whenever you adjust the wheel widths on the Dexta and the 2000, 3000 etc you need to adjust the tracking by altering the length of the drag link. Hence, the chisel marks for quick reference.
A mystery solved if you were ever wondering what they were!
